Abstract

This pamphlet is intended as a general guide to effective, low cost methods of improving and enhancing roadside safety. Technical safety hardware information such as hardware standards, warrants for selecting safety hardware, installation details, and cost- effectiveness analysis can be found in the references. The guidelines and examples are based on actual situations and observations made in a series of national reviews. They reflect the actual needs and opportunities for highway safety improvements existing on many local roads and streets.
