Abstract

This interim report presents a summery of the state of art in roadway delineation treatments/systems and the driver's delineation requirements in various situations. The information review and the resulting state of the art summery cover delineation material properties, applications to highway situations, the human factors literature pertinent to delineation, and cost effectiveness considerations. Foreign practices and research results are included. Chapters One through Five describe the report structure, research approach, major findings, appraisal and applications, and conclusions. Suggestions for future research are also provided. There are seven appendixes, as follows: A- Delineations situations -- information needs and treatment B- Human factors C- Delineation Treatments D- Delineation practices in foreign countries E- Cost effectiveness F- Forms G- Annotated bibliography.
