Abstract

Rock quality in the Kielder Experimental Tunnel was measured at four mudstone faces, one limestone face and one sandstone face. Variations in strength index and discontinuity characteristics along the mudstone heading are presented. It is concluded that discontinuity characteristics are critical in stability studies of the Tunnel.
