Abstract

The role of analytical techniques in the formulation of vehicle safety standards is briefly discussed. The evaluation of response levels of general classes of vehicles and specific vehicle characteristics as they affect handling and braking capabilities are also discussed. Emphasis is laid on actual maneuvers, roads, environments, and drivers. Separation of each of these effects is important in evaluations of braking and handling problems.
