Abstract

ARRB studies into town planning aspects of road safety have stressed the value of greater safety effort in local street systems. The availability of suitable countermeasures for lower- density suburbs, involving either new planning or redesign of streets, is readily demonstrated.Evaluation of such measures is complicated by the fact that, while the safety professionals have a clear desire to assess the accident impacts of treatment and programmes, local authorities and communities have a somewhat wider perspective.
