Abstract
To better appreciate the role the city plays in urban transportation, it is necessary to have some data on the city itself as well as on some reform under way currently in the urban transportation area. The main object of this paper is the role of the Circonscription Urbaine de Cotonou (Benin) in urban transportation. Therefore, the paper presents information on the structure and the population of the city, the rate of motorization and its evolution, the offer of transportation and demand of displacement.
