National annual accident statistics for pedestrians andeyclists are presented along with a breakout of injuriesmatchsd, with vehicle impact location and other causationfactors. Results of full scale accident simulations testsus3rig., surrogates to investigate the relationship betWeenimpact response and injury severity for several body re-gions are presented. The general approach to pedestrianinjury mitigation through vehicle modification is dis-cussed.
