Abstract

Since 1982, Rotterdam Public Works have developed and executed initiatives, (supported by a committee) whose aim is to reduce the paviour's hard labour. The most important aspect of these plans is the paving mechanization. In this paper, a comparison is made between the different types of machines, with respect to the working methods and to the results. Each type of machine has its specific field of application. Using paving machines demands a totally different way of working, compared to the traditional manual methods. The design as well as the organization, logistics and the execution are emphasized.
