Abstract

A number of studies have reported on the great safety benefits of roundabouts, but few, if any, studies of the operational efficiency of roundabouts can be found in the literature. This paper will discuss the opposition to roundabouts in many cities in the USA, with specific Kansas examples. This paper will present the video-camera methodology of data collection being used by the team, present a summary of the presently available study results regarding the superior operational efficiency of roundabout, for example, significantly less delay and stopping, and conclude with a brief summary of the acceptance/non acceptance of roundabouts in Kansas.
