Abstract

The probability that a table of rounded percentages adds to 100% is assessed. This extends works of others who found that the chance of rounding to 100% was about ¾ with 3 categories, 2/3 with four categories. A mathematical treatment of this phenomenon when the table is drawn for a multinomical distribution or from a mixture of multinomical distribution is given.
