The history of the computer in the ministry of public works, a.o. in Belgium and its use in road administration are outlined. Details are given on the road administration policy and setting up of the agar project; road data base. Its content and use; use of computer aides design (CAD) for mapping and road projects. The traffic project which aims at total integrated computerization in the graphic processing of junctions, processing or road census data, processing of traffic permits for heavy vehicles and search for suitable itineraries, and processing of all technical administrative dossiers.
