Abstract

This paper describes the various projects currently being undertaken to test route guidance and dynamic traffic information systems. The projects discussed are being developed under the SOCRATES (System Of Cellular RAdio for Traffic Efficiency and Safety) project. They include: a) the CARMINAT system, which is a one way communication system using RDS-TMC (Radio Data System - Traffic Message Channel); and b) TANGO (Traffic Information And Navigation for GOthenburg). The market for each type of system is presented and discussed, as are the sources of data each requires. A possible market penetration scenario is presented for both TANGO and CARMINAT.
