Abstract

Public investment in the road network has decreased in recent years, while traffic has continued to grow. There is therefore an increasing need to use existing roads more efficiently. One possibility is that the continuing advance in information technology may provide new systems for informing drivers about road conditions and route availability and so encourage better utilisation. Different of such new systems are discussed.
