Abstract

Traffic to and from the city center of Rotterdam can choose between several routes. The city of Rotterdam wants to inform car drivers about the current travel times via the normal and alternative route in case of delays, events and incidents. Therefore Rotterdam implements a route guidance system. Existing and new variable message signs (VMSs) will be used to informthe road user. The system has to fit in between a number of existing traffic management systems and operate on roads of two road authorities; the National Road Authority and the city of Rotterdam. The system will be prepared to deliver in-car data.
