Abstract

Choosing a route to a known destination belongs to man's every- day behaviour from the first year of his life on. A special category are the trips in road networks where the route decisions of individuals affect other road users and street- surrounding non- users, and necessitate an active traffic and transportation planning as well. This article presents a theoretical framework for the individual route choice process considering the traveller as a dynamic information processing system that consistently attaches valuations to route attributes on the basis of which a decision is made.
