Abstract

The German city of Kassel is located in the centre of Germany. An environmental traffic scheme had been developed in Kassel with future measures to: (1) increase cycle use by construction of cycle tracks; (2) improve use of trams; and (3) regulate car use by traffic restraint and parking management measures. An artificial European city was created (Den Hassel) and an artificial Road Transport Informatics (RTI) environment. The objective of the case study was to show how to apply a pilot model and verify results. Information was derived from a survey carried out in 1989 of 2,310 households in Kassel, by INOVAPLAN.
