Abstract

There is a mutual influence between the transport system and the environmental planning. In order to formulate this influence research has been done to the characteristics of both the transport system and the environmental planning. This paper describes the characteristics of the transport system on three fields: the quality of space; the quality of the environment, and the quality of time. In each field characteristics are defined for both the transport system and the environmental planning. The combination of these two types of characteristics results in a total use of quality by the system. While there is no quality until these values are compared to others, reference values are defined. The relationship between the use and the reference value is a quality index. In each field several indices are formulated which helps the making of a statement on the quality of the system. (A)
