Abstract

The U.S. Federal Highway Administration has released a guide designed to help transportation agencies develop and implement transportation management plans (TMP) for work zones. A TMP lays out a set of coordinated transportation management strategies and describes how they will be used to manage the work zone impacts of a road project. The guide provides an overview of why developing, implementing, and assessing TMPs is important; describes how and where a TMP fits into project-level processes and procedures; lists the components that could be considered for inclusion in TMPs; describes various work zone management strategies; provides a number of examples and practices describing how agencies are currently using TMPs; and more.
