Abstract

This document is intended to be a guide for planning-level decisions concerning safety issues and subsequent potential improvements at rural expressway intersections. It is not a design guide. It simply presents the gamut of safety treatment options and available strategies that have been employed in an attempt to reduce the number and severity of collisions at unsignalized rural expressway intersections. This document should only be used as a tool for considering safety treatment options at rural expressway intersections. It is meant to aid transportation agency management in selecting the most appropriate rural expressway treatment to address the particular safety issue they are facing. (Author/publisher)
