Abstract

This volume of seminar papers covers safety and sustainability matters in transport, considering the role of quality assurance. The introductory section describes the Swedish "Vision Zero" approach to safety and its effect on transport policy in other countries. The roles of the consumer and operator in ensuring a change of approach are outlined in the second section, and the third considers the role of governments as consumer. The need to change the behaviour and attitude of individual road users is addressed. Requirements for public and freight transport safety are discussed, and the final section concerns vehicle design to improve safety of drivers, occupants and other road users. For abstracts of the papers see C 26715 - C 26744 (ITRD E118918 - E118947).
