Abstract

The home delivery service HERMES has estimated that introducing a range of safe driving measures in its UK operations has contributed to a US$1.5million cost saving to the business in the 12 months to April 2010. The Hermes Driving School plays a critical role in ensuring that the company's 480 employed drivers and 163 agency drivers meet its industry-leading safe driving standards. A change in management culture to manage those driving on behalf of the business more thoroughly and to scrutinise the costs associated with them more effectively has reduced vehicle downtime, vehicle replacement costs and improved reliability of client delivery and collection times. The company makes regular driving licence checks and a detailed analysis of any accidents to see if additional driver training is required.
