Abstract

`Safe Routes To Schools' is a community program to improve the road safety of children travelling in their local area. Through an interactive process, `Safe Routes To Schools' identifies the factors involved in children's accidents, and develops integrated engineering and education actions to improve road safety around participating schools. The program is promoted in areas which have a high incidence of child pedestrian and bicycle accidents; it involves local government, schools, community groups and Vic Roads. A guidelines manual is available to assist with program implementation. (A)
