Abstract

This paper describes the project `A Safe Way to School on Foot or Bicycle : Traffic and Children', its aims and the resulting multimedia PC software product. The aim of Safer Way is to improve lessons in road safety drills by making a CD-ROM with teaching materials that combine live video, photos, graphics, sound and text. This software targets children from 9 to 13 years. The computer adds interactivity and reality to 23 carefully designed scenarios, allowing children to react on the screen to real-life traffic situations that often cause fatal accidents and to face the consequences of their decisions.
