Abstract

This publication describes the advantages to both employers and employees of motorcycle safety initiatives organised via the motorcyclists' place of work. Even where the motorcycle is not used on behalf of the employer, it makes good business sense to reduce the risk of disruption caused by an employee having a motorcycle accident. To develop safety initiatives, staff involvement is considered important in the planning. It is suggested that it is best to begin with rider assessment and progress to advanced rider training. Motorcycling can play an important part in workplace travel plans. Ideas for getting started are listed, case studies are provided, and defensive riding tips for motorcyclists are supplied. Useful Internet sites and publications are listed. The full text of this publication may be found at: http://www.rospa.com/roadsafety/info/motorcycling_through_work.pdf.
