Abstract

Bicycle clothing and accessories which contribute to a greater or lesser extent to the rider's safety in traffic are described. The overall contribution is assessed as limited, and many developers of devices persist in areas where the safety value is very small. Some reasons for this are explored, including the readiness of the motoring public to see safety aids for cyclists as an easy solution to a problem.
