Abstract

Some of the performance requirements of the tyre are reviewed and an illustration is given of the range of technologies involved in tyre development. To obtain the optimum performance of the vehicle there is a need to identify and specify the road surface textural characteristics and the performance properties of the tyre and braking system. How this might be achieved in practice is discussed in relation to the road surface and the tyre.
