Abstract

This report gives detail of the progress made since the completion of the SAMOVAR feasibility study in 1992. The main theme of the SAMOVAR project is the demonstration that traffic safety can be improved through the use of on-vehicle recorders, this improvement being measured in terms of a reduction in accident rate and severity. Additional, the work covers an investigation into the potential of new methods of accident reconstruction based on the use of electronically recorded data obtained while the accident is happening. The report covers the acquisition of the equipment necessary to conduct the field trial work and the trial vehicles.
