Abstract

Following an extensive survey in selected cities which documented the reasons motorists do not use seat belts the U.S. Department of Transport called on industry to voluntary produce belt restraints without the objectionable features. Safety belt legislation is saving an increasing number of lives. Improved safety belt systems increase the arguments for mandatory seat belt use legislation.
