Abstract

This paper briefly reviews the development of regulations requiring safety belts and use-inducing systems in u.s. vehicles. Also covered are studies directed to identifying safety belt system characteristics and other factors influencing the use and non-use of safety belts, with particular emphasis on comfort and convenience aspects of design and operation. The final section of the paper is devoted to discussion of the crash protective effectiveness of belt restraint systems. (a) the number of the covering abstract of the conference is IRRD no. 234250.
