Abstract

Large and small car crash performance is examined in terms of incidence of accident involvement and relative accident severity within a large volume data base. Problems and biases associated with each of the measurements of effectiveness are discussed. It is noted that the largest factor influencing vehicle safety performance are vehicle weight and use of safety belts.
