Abstract
The origins of development work on organisational safety culture is outlined, based on major hazard industries such as aviation and chemical processing, where it is believed lies a critical frontier in accident prevention. Approaches to studying safety cultures are considered, along with attitudes to violation and effects of organisational training. Possible future avenues of safety culture development, in the context of driver behaviour, are discussed in relation to fleet safety and the transfer of methods and findings from the high hazard content.
