Abstract

In this study, six approximately paired towns in the range 90,000 to 250,000 population were compared. These were: Oxford; Peterborough; and York, which were compared with Heidelberg, Ingolstadt and Munster respectively. Comparison was made of the cycle facilities available; safety of cycle facilities; type of junction at which accidents occur. Views of cyclists were sought, and the question of whether promotion of cycling would automatically lead to more accidents discussed. For the covering abstract of the seminar see IRRD 847110
