Abstract

General characteristics of bicycle and moped use, including safety aspects of cycling and moped riding, in the Netherlands, are presented. The Dutch governmental policy regarding safety of cyclists and moped riders is explained. The results of evaluations concerning the safety of cycle lanes and cycle paths are outlined. Cycle paths are safe for cyclists but not for moped riders. Cycle paths have to be ended before a junction.
