Abstract
This feature begins as a response to a request from the San Francisco Board of Supervisors that the Department of Parking and Traffic investigate the desirability of prohibiting right turns on red at all intersections in the city. Because this is a question that comes up frequently in discussions with the public, it is important for traffic engineers to understand the advantages and disadvantages of prohibiting right turns on red.
