Abstract

This issue of Current Topics includes over 65 abstracts of reports, conference papers, books and journal articles which focus on the design, specification and testing of bicycle and motorcycle crash helmets and their effectiveness in ameliorating head injuries to riders. Subjects also covered include crash helmet wearing rates; rider attitudes; the importance of correct fit, size and wearing style; effectiveness of publicity campaigns and legislation for helmet use. Crash helmets for cyclists are covered in Part 1 and for motorcyclists in Part 2. These items have been selected from the material added to the TRL Library Database between 1998 and 2001. Much of the relevant English language published literature from the UK, USA, Australia and Europe is included; some of the non-UK literature is included courtesy of the OECD International Transport Research Documentation (ITRD) database.
