The development of intelligent vehicle safety systems is rapidly moving from autonomous systems relying on vehicle's own sensors towards cooperative systems utilising communications between vehicles or between infrastructure and vehicles. The paper discusses the results of two recent European studies assessing the socioeconomic impacts of intelligent vehicle systems, including a number of cooperative systems.
