Abstract

The results of an investigation concerning the security of loads on vehicles in New Zealand are presented. On average 29 reported motor accidents (involving injury) per year are caused by vehicles carrying insecure loads, resulting in 34 casualties, 21 of which involve serious or fatal injury. Load security surveys found that 57 percent of all observed laden motor vehicles carried their load insecurely; 68 percent of laden heavy motor vehicles were observed to be carrying their loads insecurely.
