Abstract

This chapter provides a U.S. perspective on the safety of older drivers. Contextual information on the importance of driving to the elderly is offered, including data that can help to predict future travel and safety trends. This is followed by a series of viewpoints on the safety of older drivers and information about their crashes. Lastly, the chapter briefly discusses the range of options available for achieving the dual goals of mobility and safety for the older adult population.
