Abstract

One- way streets are used as an inexpensive solution to capacity and parking problems, mainly on arterial or collector streets. In residential areas one- way streets are used to prevent through traffic, to reduce conflicts at intersections and to provide more parking space. This study examines the safety of one- way streets by comparing accident rates on all one- way streets in one city to those on all two- way streets in the same city, for the same period.
