Abstract

This Record contains research on several safety topics of concerns in the United States and internationally. Driver noncompliance with traffic regulations and the amount of enforcement devoted to traffic are of particular concern in urban areas. Speed enforcement, characterization, estimation, and effects on accidents are continuing problems. Four papers in this Record address these issues. The older driver is of considerable interest, and research about older drivers is becoming more available. In this Record a method of identifying locations of high risk for older drivers is discussed. In addition, a paper on a topic little studied but much discussed, the older pedestrian, is presented.
