Abstract

This new code of practice has statutory backing from February 2002 for street works in the UK. It is required that street works should be safe, that road users should not be put at risk and that the need of vulnerable road users and disabled persons are taken into account. Site layouts are described and illustrated. The basic signs are illustrated. High visibility clothing is required. Procedures for setting out signs, lighting of signs, using footway boards or road plates, mobile works carried out from a vehicle, work near tramsways or level crossings and speed restrictions are given.
