Safety study: Crashworthiness of small poststandard school buses.

Abstract

This study reports on the crash performance of small school buses and vans used for school transportation. Occupants of these small buses generally fared well in the accidents investigated. Recommendations given focus on the following safety issues; design of restraining barriers; feasibility of providing lap /shoulder belts or other restraints with upper torso support for passengers, deficiencies in roof and joint strength, and door controls in certain small school buses.
