Abstract

This paper describes the transport provision and transport requirements of the elderly in a country such as the Ivory Coast, including the need to modify streets and pavements to improve accessibility for such people. It also proposes a number of policies which would improve both accessibility and road safety. These include the provision of pedestrian precincts in towns, increasing the number of footbridges and underpasses, and improving public transport.
