Abstract

The aim of the study was to collect basic data in order to express the connections between vehicle costs and road and traffic conditions in model form. A study of literature was performed to survey the state of the art. Data on fuel consumption in different road and traffic conditions were frequently found in the reports. Literature also contained plenty of data on rolling- and air resistance, which can be used to estimate fuel consumption. Data on the effect of traffic conditions were not so frequently found. The energy crisis has resulted in a lot of reports concerning how to reduce energy consumption in road traffic. Most reports deal with changes in the technical construction of road vehicles. Tyre wear depends to a great extent on accelerations and decelerations. Especially lateral accelerations have a great effect on tyre wear. Most of the literature referred to is not Swedish. There is a problem in how to apply results found abroad to Swedish road and traffic conditions. Especially data on depreciation and capital costs, which to a great extent are affected by conditions in society apart from road and traffic conditions, cannot be transferred directly.
