Abstract

In 1973 a sample of approximately 1300 sites on the British road system was selected for the purpose of making a traffic census. It was decided to follow this up by surveying the road characteristics at these sites, to provide estimates of the prevalence of various geometrical and other features. This report describes the selection of the sites, the survey carried out, and a selection of the results which were obtained. Such results provide background information useful in assessing the effects which various road features can have on accidents. (Author/publisher)
