Abstract
Because of uncertainty in the oil market in the spring of 1979 and reduced access to oil and petroleum, the Swedish Government reduced the speed limit from 110 to 90 km/h during the period 6/21-10/15/1979. Investigations have shown that the average speed of passenger vehicles on motor highways declined from 107 to about 100 km/h in Sept-Oct. This reduction has meant a savings of 12 to 29 million liters of gasoline during the period.
