Abstract

This study aims at developing the saturation flow of three-legged signalised junction and comparing with earlier studies conducted with different mixed traffic flow conditions. It is worth mentioning that study conducted on saturation flow takes into account the width of the approach road, hourly approach traffic volume and the ratio between number of vehicles and their equivalent PCUs. The study has been conclusive with the development of saturation flow model and validated finally with observed data. The study also compares with other models developed earlier in relation to the width of the approach road, hourly approach traffic volume, and ratio between the number of vehicles to their equivalent PCUs. It is observed that the saturation flow model developed is not static and varies with the approach width and ratio between number of vehicles to their equivalent PCUs.
