Abstract

This paper gives a general review of existing traffic sensors with particular reference to the electro- magnetic and microwave. There is a need for the development of stand alone sensors capable of measuring speed and tracking the movement of a vehicle at an intersection. It appears that scanning microwave beams and appropriate electronic signal processing can be used to realise such a sensor.
