Abstract

One of the important problems in ship acoustics is that of the transfer of sound from the engine room to other places. In many cases the most attractive way to find the relevant transfer functions is that of doing measurements on a scale model. The scaling rules are very simple but nevertheless they are usually not fully satisfied. However, for noise abatement purposes the required information is generally very limited, and certain imperfections of the model can be allowed. This is illustrated by a number of examples.
