Abstract

The ‘Hands Up For Road Safety’ program officially commenced on 23 February 2004. The initiative is an integrated program addressing all aspects of road safety at schools and incorporates solutions such as: engineering to improve the safety and accessibility around schools; education in road safety safe practices for students, along with advisory information/facts sheets for parents for inclusion in the school newsletter; enforcement of any new or existing parking or stopping restrictions outside schools (Councils regulatory services officers and/or Queensland Police Service). The ‘Hands Up For Road Safety’ program is offered free of charge to all government and non-government primary schools within the Gold Coast City local government area.
